The calendar says it’s Spring, but the weather is telling us something entirely different here in the mid-Atlantic. We had snow fall (I swear it was the most snow we’ve seen all year) on Monday, but weather is calling for 60’s this weekend. While the weather is still making up it’s mind, let’s take a look at some of the Spring Trends for 2013 strait off the runway as well as wearable looks that you can buy now.
Stripes: Thick and thin, black and white and colored stripes were everywhere from ball gowns to long-sleeved sweaters.
Wearable: J. Crew
Color: Yellow, blue, green and orange walked down the runway, but not the typical Spring pastels. Think more 80’s vibrant and bright stand-out pieces. This look must be anchored with denim, black or white, as it’s a bold look that can easily go “way out”
Runway: Proenza Schouler
Leather: It’s not just for colder weather. Lighter leather in skirts, shirts, jackets and as accents on clothes in black, tan and white were spotted. H&M, Zara, and companies such as Sanctuary, MM Couture and Tinley Road do outstanding leather alternatives, which provide an option for those who don’t wear leather or who are looking for a lower price point.
Runway: Jason Wu
Wearable: Tinley Road, Piperlime
Lace: Ladylike in lace! Dresses and peplum tops in all colors, with a lace overlay can be worn with a blazer now and alone once the warm weather sticks around.
Runway: Vera Wang
Florals: Another girly look.
Wearable: Old Navy
Ruffles: Last super feminine look, I promise.
Runway: Diane von Furstenberg
Iridescent: This is one look that you can wear for the next year, as it was also seen on the Fall/Winter 2013-2014 runways. I’m going to go outside of my normal black or leopard pump and try a pair of shoes (or a clutch) in this shiny material. If you’re brave, a skirt would look fabulous (paired with a plain top and shoes, natch!)
Runway: Jonathan Saunders
Wearable: French Connection
Bold patterns and Graphics: Think international travel — Far East, Asian and India — and Geometry class for these bold patterns.
Runway: Mary Katrantzou
Black and White: From stripes, patterns and color blocking, these two colors were lock-step on the runway. This trend will carry you from Spring/Summer 2013 through Fall/Winter 2014, as the color combo was seen on many a runway in February.
Runway: Narciso Rodriguez
Wearable: Joe Fresh (available online & in stores – JC Penney)
